Inverted Milk Drop Pendant

Need New Jewelry for Valentine’s Day?!?

Looking for a valentines gift this year that is not chocolate or something sexy? Treat yourself to breastmilk jewelry that will be a reminder of your journey and last a lifetime. Go pick out one or a few new pieces of jewelry that you will cherish for a lifetime. Do not forget to drop a few hints to your partner.

What is Breast Milk Jewelry?

Breast milk jewelry is my favorite keepsake to remember all the ups and downs of my breastfeeding journey. Breastfeeding can be full of a lot of tears, but also when you look back you feel so accomplished.

The Original Creator of Lactation Keepsakes is run by Holly and makes each item from your own breast milk, each piece is beautiful in its own way. This visual keepsake will remind you daily of all your hard work and precious nursing experience.

She only needs ONE TABLESPOON of breastmilk that can make up to three pieces unless she has started differently in your product description. Make sure you ship the proper amount of milk if you order more than 3 items.

Breastmilk Items Ideas:

  • Rings
  • Pendants
  • Bracelets
  • Pearls
  • Earrings
  • Trinket Dishes
  • Ring holders
  • Personalized Jewelry which can incorporate the first baby haircut

The finished project will look kind of like an opal especially if someone is not looking too closely. Nobody ever asks about my ring but I do love to share. Most Mamas think it is really cool and most men think it is weird and disgusting.

Can I Make My Own Jewelry?

YES, I am all about what I can DIY at home. Who does not love going down a Pinterest rabbit hole of DIY? However, once all your milk is gone, it is gone. If the ring does not hold up or the resin goes bad you no longer have that ring keepsake.

I will share with you a little secret. I still keep 1 bag of breastmilk in my freezer in case I want one more piece of jewelry. That is also why I have a ring holder which should last forever since I do not wash it or put hand sanitizer on my ring. No this is not recommended, but when you wear stackable rings every day, it happens multiple times a day.

There are kits on how to DIY your Breast Milk Jewelry where you can make up to 15 pieces of jewelry. The kits will usually last for up to one year.

The kit will come with all your supplies:

  • Breast milk-preserving powder
  • Jeweler’s resin
  • Pick a piece of jewelry (Necklace or ring)
  • Stirring stick
  • 5 ml syringe
  • Toothpicks
  • Pearl shimmer
  • White pigment
  • Cups & spoon for resin mixing
  • Molding putty
  • Handbook or videos to watch for each step

Here is a quick overview of the steps so you know what you are getting into:

  1. Combine Breast Milk and the Mod Podge
  2. Mix in Cornstarch
  3. Add in Extras such as a Piece of Hair, Flower or Color
  4. Fill the Mold
  5. File The Mold and Let Dry
  6. Time for Resin
  7. Let Cure

One of the kits states it takes only 2-3 hours; however, the time is broken into several days due to drying time and cure time.

How Long Does Breast Milk Jewelry Last?

Your new piece of jewelry should last a lifetime as long as it is made correctly.

However, there are different kinds of resin and very cheap resin will fall apart or discolor your breastmilk. Within 3 months you will see your piece of jewelry discolor if the breastmilk is not preserved correctly. If this happens, please reach out to the maker of the jewelry and see if they will remake the item for you.

What is the Point of Breastmilk Jewelry?

I have had this question asked to me a few times. Why did you make this or Why do you wear those stackable rings every day? These little items are mementos of your hard work, late-night hours up, and the rich bond you develop with your baby. When I am having a hard day, I remember that I am strong enough to get through this hurdle.

How Do You Take Care of Your Breast Milk Jewelry?

  • Here are a few ways to take the best care of your breast milk jewelry so it lasts a lifetime:
  • Handle your jewelry very easily so that you can avoid scratches
  • Keep it in a jewelry box and away from other pieces.
  • Try not to use creams, perfume, hand sanitizer
  • Do not sleep with your pendant to avoid moisture

Can You Get Breast Milk Jewelry Wet?

YES BUT….you should really take it off, so it is not exposed to harsh chemicals. Take it off before you:

  • Bathe or shower
  • Wash your hands
  • Apply hand sanitizer
  • Go Swimming

Final Thoughts…

I have purchased all of my jewelry from Holly! She is so sweet and super responsive to emails. My favorite items are my 2 rings from each of my breastfeeding journeys. I stack them with my wedding rings each day. One time, she had a little extra milk and made me a cute pendant. Holly just seems to go above and beyond with packaging and a bonus item.
