Papaya Milk is a refreshing and popular drink in Central America (the Dominican Republic) and Asia. Also, papaya is a fruit that contains galactagogue, a substance that can help increase and improve breast milk production.

Galactagogue will increase your milk supply.  The more common kinds of galactagogue you may have heard of are fenugreek, blessed thistle, and alfalfa.

Papaya Milk

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Papaya flesh (11 oz)
  • 2 cups Milk ( I used 2 % fat)
  • 2 cups Ice (11 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk (I used fat-free)

Items you can always add to your smoothies that help to increase your breastmilk:

  • Coconut milk
  • Coconut water
  • Oats
  • Flaxseed
  • Brewer’s yeast
  • Kale
  • Avocado
  • Apricots
  • Dates
  • Fenugeek
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin
  • Ginger
  • Garlic

When adding in fruits to your smoothie there are a few to avoid due to the high Citric Acid content. The high Citric Acid can irritate your baby’s bowel movement and digestive system.

  • Oranges
  • Kiwi
  • Pineapple
  • Lemon
  • Lime
  • Grapefruit

Next time you go to the grocery store, stock up on your favorite smoothie items. You can make them from home because what new Mama really wants to put on shoes and a real bra, plus load up a baby for a 5-minutes car ride?
